Case Examples

From 2017 to 2020, through a grant from the Nellie Mae Education Foundation, Education First has supported the New England Alliances for College and Career Readiness (NEACCR). A change in Nellie Mae’s grantmaking prompted the alliances to re-examine their growth strategies and fundraising goals. Education First engaged Pear Associates to provide sustainability consulting services to the backbone organizations leading three of the five alliances (Maine Spark, Advance Vermont, and the New Hampshire Alliance for College and Career Readiness) as they navigate their future growth without the continued support of Nellie Mae funding. Pear Associates worked with each Alliance one-on-one to develop an action plan for future sustainability that explored foundations, business partnerships, and membership structure and facilitated a three-hour boot camp to address shared sustainability challenges.
Partners for Youth with Disabilities (PYD) provides innovative and transformative programs empowering youth with disabilities and providing opportunities to acquire the information, resources, and skills that lead to employment and independent living. In 2021, PYD engaged Pear Associates to establish and develop an individual donor strategy, annual giving campaign, and corporate outreach and foundation relations strategy. Since then, Pear Associates has provided ongoing fundraising support and grant writing as PYD further developed its development program and portfolio of funders.
Social Capital Inc. (SCI) is a Woburn, Massachusetts-based nonprofit organization that aims to strengthen communities by connecting diverse individuals and organizations through civic engagement initiatives. In 2018, SCI contracted with Pear Associates to analyze the organization's current fundraising model, identify opportunities for revenue growth, and make recommendations for development staffing. Pear Associates conducted informant interviews with staff and Board members and reviewed materials provided by SCI leadership, including individual and institutional donor history. Pear Associates created a findings report summarizing the assessment of SCI's development program, identifying strengths and opportunities and recommendations for action that could strengthen the organization's capacity for future fundraising success.
The Haven Project provides age-appropriate services to homeless young adults in the Greater Lynn, Massachusetts area, including housing, education, employment, and resources to address basic needs. Pear Associates provided strategic advisement during The Haven Project's leadership transition. Our team developed a comprehensive revenue generation plan and provided fundraising support while the new Executive Director became oriented to her role, and The Haven Project recruited a permanent development professional.
The Mobile Healthcare Association is the leading membership organization in the United States and Canada, helping organizations start and scale mobile health clinics. They engaged Pear Associates to develop a Fundraising Toolkit with grant funding from the Leon Lowenstein Foundation. Pear Associates developed a comprehensive resource to help mobile health clinics improve their sustainability in order to increase access to health care and create healthier communities. The Toolkit modules focus on foundation and government prospect research, grant writing, annual fund, donor appeals, friend-raising/fundraising events, donor relationships, social media fundraising, communication/branding, and strategic partnerships. Pear Associates also conducted a series of educational webinars that complement the Toolkit modules.
YWCA – NH has been dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for over a century. In 2020, YWCA-NH engaged Pear Associates in establishing and developing an individual donor, corporate outreach, and foundation relations strategy and offering support as the organization hosted its 101st-anniversary event. Pear Associates also conducted a Board training on fundraising. Through Pear Associate's guidance and recommendations, YWCA- NH surpassed their prior year's fundraising efforts by at least 100%.
